A future, in essence, is the individual you want to become—the person you create. To what end? What is your dream?
The lack of optimism and faith, lately, is quite disturbing; where does this road lead to? Imagine a society that collectively does not want children, even promoting the opposite. To what end? We can already see this end, a self-centered society where Egoism shall be our god.1
If you do not want (or have) children, you are forever a child, unable to love someone above you unconditionally. What incentive do you have to improve tomorrow if you will be dead—sans legacy—the day after? View Life from the angle of incentives, and you will see the end.
Valuing incentives is akin to sitting on the top of a hill, and you can see everything from above—oh, how the air is fresh. But do not rest here. There is always a higher mountain, a taller vantage point to view that which we call Life. I know not what lies above, but I will climb towards it.
Think of recent ideological movements, what is their end? Where does the road lead to? Most movements perish by virtue of their design—they cannot spread. These movements are temporary, a blip in our existence. So do not fall for the propaganda. See through the veil of bullshit. Remember, beautiful things do not beg for attention—Beauty exists as Beauty, and we must train our eyes to see it. After all, Life is just one or three days.
So, do not be afraid of our short lives. That is to be scared of the wrong thing. Death is not scary—to live in conflict with oneself is even worse than death. Everyone is the other, and no one is himself.2 So, I wish nothing for you but peace of mind.
We sat in silence, luxuriating in the time soon to end. We did not know when we would part, but the lack of control, once a cause for discomfort—was peaceful and sublime. We did not live in the moment. We lived into the moment—appreciating the present as a brief gift shared for two.
